She has been the voice of the San Diego Zoo and has educated tens of thousands of students across the county for over a decade. With her deep understanding of South African cultural principles such as Ubuntu, Nomsa brings a unique and triumphant South Africanness to her performances with NOMSA, the band, and her other affiliations. Her ability to incorporate language elements and cultural nuances into her music fosters a deeper appreciation and understanding of South African culture among her audiences. Nomsa's authenticity and dedication make her a cherished and influential figure in the San Diego music community.

Bio: Max Barry is a talented guitarist based in San Diego, known for his deep passion for world music. Max was one of the founding members of the band Izinde, which has been instrumental in bringing the vibrant rhythms and melodies of African music to a broader audience. For the past 15 years, he has been playing with Nomsa, contributing his guitar skills and his extensive knowledge of African musical traditions. His dedication to exploring and performing world music has made him a respected figure in the music community, celebrated for his ability to blend diverse musical styles seamlessly.

Bio: Robert Ackley is a versatile musician based in San Diego, celebrated for his expertise in playing the Bass and Mbira (also known as Kalimba). His deep appreciation for the cultural heritage of the Shona people of Zimbabwe has significantly influenced his musical style and repertoire. A regular member of NOMSA, Robert's musical journey is marked by his dedication to world music and his craftsmanship in building many of the instruments he plays. His profound connection to the Shona musical traditions and his ability to blend them with other styles have made him a distinguished figure in the music community. Robert has had the privilege of studying under some of Zimbabwe's most esteemed musicians, including Cosmas Magaya, Forward Kwenda, and Patience Munjeri. Robert's contributions to NOMSA and his innovative approach to music make him a respected and admired artist.

Bio: JP Hewitt is a dynamic drummer based in San Diego, renowned for his rock-solid drumming and exceptional rhythmic feel. For over 12 years, JP has known and performed with Nomsa, sharing the stage with her in various settings, including schools and universities. His versatility extends beyond traditional drumming to include playing the Djembe and Congas, showcasing his ability to adapt and explore different musical landscapes. As a core member of NOMSA, alongside Max Barry and Robert Ackley, JP's contributions have been instrumental in shaping the band's unique sound. His openness to experimenting with new instruments and styles adds a creative edge to their performances, making him a valued and innovative musician within the ensemble.

Bio: Garit Imhoff is a seasoned mbira player, singer, teacher, and storyteller with over 45 years of experience in world music. As a founding member of Zimbeat, an ensemble dedicated to traditional and popular Zimbabwean music, Garit initially focused on Zimbabwean traditions. Now, as a member of NOMSA, he has expanded his repertoire to embrace a broader range of Southern African music. Together with the band NOMSA, he helps promote the rich musical heritage of South Africa and Zimbabwe. Garit has had the privilege of studying under some of Zimbabwe's most esteemed musicians, including Ephat Mujuru, Jacob Mafuleni, and Musekiwa Chingodza. His expertise in mbira, percussion, and vocals continues to enrich their live performances.
